Results of Water Quality Monitoring for the Kings Agricultural Wetland and
Biodiversity Conservation Initiative

SUMMARY

As part of the Kings Agricultural Wetland and Biodiversity Conservation Initiative being carried out by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, a water quality monitoring program was initiated at two demonstration sites. One component of this monitoring program involved installation of continuously recording data loggers located within the Cornwallis River at locations where the River entered and exited each of the demonstration sites. The water quality parameters monitored included water temperature and depth, conductivity, pH, turbidity and percent dissolved oxygen saturation. The results for the 2006-07 season indicate that, with one exception, water quality does not appear to be a limiting factor for aquatic life at any of the sites monitored. The one exception is for turbidly, an indirect measure of suspended particulate matter, which often reached high levels during events associated with increased water input to the River.
